The Alliance of Specialty Medicine’s newsletter, On Call, provides updates and information on legislative and regulatory issues for which the Alliance is advocating and highlights our individual member societies’ work. In the Winter 2020 edition, we cover the Alliance’s first-ever “virtual” fly-in, where specialty docs from around the country logged in to discuss health care policy with Congressional leaders and offer their own front line assessments on the state of health care in the United States. The health policy coverage continues with a story on how the Alliance has allied with other national provider groups to address CMS’s proposed harmful Medicare payment cuts. Our individual member societies are highlighted as well, with stories on physician burnout in neurosurgery and the work of the American Gastroenterological Association’s efforts to stop Medicare from charging surprise co-pays for colonoscopies. Finally, we remember Dr. Alan Crandall of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and his selfless work to bring eye care to the world’s poorest communities.
